Why You Should Get Married In Somerset

Why Somerset is a Great Place to Get Married

Scenic Backdrops

Somerset is home to some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the UK. From rolling hills and green pastures to dramatic coastlines and rugged mountains, there is no shortage of stunning backdrops for your wedding photos. Whether you're looking for a beach wedding or a countryside affair, Somerset has something to offer. Having lived near Somerset for many years, I have come to appreciate just how much this county has to offer. I have spent a lot of time exploring the beaches in Weston-Super-Mare and Minehead, as well as driving through the Quantock Hills and the Mendip Hills, which always leave me breathless. How does that translate into weddings? I’ve been privileged to be able to take some of my couples around some amazing backdrops for their photos in what I feel is unrivaled scenery. It’s like photography on easy mode. One of my favourite venues in Somerset is Dairyhouse Farm, you can read my blog post on that venue here

Rich Culture and History

Somerset is steeped in history and culture, making it a unique and inspiring place to get married. From the bustling city of Bath to the quaint villages of the Quantock Hills, the region is full of character and charm. I have photographed weddings in luxury hotels and I have also taken some amazing photos at the Glastonbury Tor and gone to the Somerset Levels for an epic marquee reception afterward. You literally cannot go wrong with any type of wedding, whatever your budget. The chances are you’ll be somewhere stunning regardless. I remember shooting a wedding on a campsite in Somerset before and it was an amazing day all-round. Just being in the gorgeous Somerset countryside surrounded by nothing but breathtaking views and the whole day was just a great party from start to finish. Somerset Campsite Wedding

Fantastic Food and Drink

Let’s get one thing straight, cider just does not taste the same unless it comes from locally sourced Somerset farms and I challenge anyone to prove me wrong.

A lot of the venues I shoot weddings at always serve some of the most delicious food I have ever tried at a wedding. The most amazing cider I tried was served to me at The Dairyhouse Farm. Somerset is known for its excellent food and drink, and whether you opt for a traditional Somerset feast or a more contemporary menu, you'll find plenty of delicious options to choose from. And, with a thriving local food and drink scene, you can be sure that your guests will be impressed, I certainly have been!

Affordable Options

Whilst I class myself more towards the “high-end” category of wedding photographers, I am always aware that wedding budgets sometimes get a bit stretched. Despite its stunning beauty and rich culture, Somerset is an affordable place to get married. Compared to other popular wedding destinations in the UK, you'll find that prices for venues, catering, and other wedding essentials are much more reasonable in Somerset. This makes it a great option for couples who want a memorable wedding without breaking the bank.

Warm and Friendly People

So I like to think that the wedding industry as a whole is full of suppliers that all have the same zest and passion for making sure their clients are having the best day of their lives. It feels so rewarding to contribute your expertise in helping your couples enjoy an awesome day. Having said that, and I can vouch for this as an Englishman, the people of Somerset are known for their warmth and friendliness, and you'll find that everyone you meet is eager to help make your wedding day as special as possible.

In conclusion, Somerset is an excellent place to get married, offering scenic backdrops, rich culture and history, fantastic food and drink, affordable options, and warm and friendly people. If you're looking for a unique and memorable wedding experience, look no further than Somerset.
