10 Reasons Why You Should Ditch the UK and Get Hitched in Cyprus

Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life. It's a day that you want to cherish forever and create memories that will last a lifetime. But, planning a wedding can be a daunting task, from choosing the right location, finding the perfect venue, and selecting the best vendors. Cyprus is a destination that offers everything you need to make your wedding day a memorable one. I actually got married there myself and I put together this blog for you from my knowledge and experiences.

Here are 10 reasons why you should get married in Cyprus.

1. Perfect Weather

Cyprus boasts a Mediterranean climate, with long, hot summers and mild winters, making it the perfect destination for a wedding. You can expect plenty of sunshine almost all year round, which is ideal for outdoor weddings. With such beautiful weather, you won't have to worry about unpredictable rain or extreme temperatures ruining your special day. On my own wedding day, we had a record high for that particular date despite the morning looking overcast.

2. Stunning Venues

Cyprus offers an impressive variety of venues for your wedding day. From traditional church weddings to intimate beach ceremonies, rustic villas, luxury hotels, and everything in between, there is no shortage of stunning venues to choose from. You are sure to find something that suits your taste, style, and budget. My own wedding was an intimate affair on a private beach before we were taken off to some stunning locations near Ayia Napa for our photos and eventually back to the Garden of Eden restaurant for our reception.

3. Affordable Prices

Compared to other destinations in Europe, getting married in Cyprus is surprisingly affordable. You can have a luxurious wedding without breaking the bank. The cost of living in Cyprus is lower than in many other European countries, which means that you can get more value for your money. We hired a wedding planner who is based at the venue we had chosen (The Garden of Eden, Ayia Napa) and she helped us pick out our own colour scheme, decorated the venue, arranged the wedding transport, she took us to the town hall to register our marriage documents before the big day, literally, everything was taken care of for us. Not only that but we ended up with a one-week all-inclusive holiday for our money as well which took us well under the budget you would have spent on a UK wedding.

4. Romantic Settings

Cyprus is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and romantic settings, making it an ideal destination for weddings. You can exchange vows on a secluded beach, in a picturesque mountain village, or in a stunning botanical garden. The island's charm and beauty will provide a perfect backdrop for your wedding photos and create memories that will last a lifetime. Where we were in Ayia Napa, near the beach we said our vows you have the end of the hotel strip where you can find the lover’s bridge which is a hugely popular place. There are also some nice countryside spots for some epic photos off the beaten track which look stunning in your wedding gallery.

5. Expert Wedding Planners

Cyprus has a wealth of experienced wedding planners who can help you plan every aspect of your special day. They can take care of everything, from legal requirements to selecting the best vendors, and coordinating the event. With their local knowledge, connections, and expertise, you can relax and enjoy your day, knowing that everything is taken care of. Ours, Jakie, was outstanding and she took every single bit of stress and worry away from us here in the UK. We turned up, and everything was perfect for us.

6. Delicious Food and Wine

Cyprus is famous for its delicious cuisine and excellent wines. You can treat your guests to a traditional Cypriot banquet or opt for a more contemporary menu that reflects your personal tastes. You can enjoy fresh, locally sourced ingredients, combined with unique spices and flavors, making your wedding feast truly memorable.

7. Diverse Culture

Cyprus is a melting pot of different cultures and traditions, making it a unique destination for a wedding. You can incorporate elements from different cultures into your wedding ceremony, such as traditional dances or music, to create a truly personalized event. This will make your day even more special and meaningful, reflecting your cultural heritage.

8. Honeymoon Destination

Cyprus is an excellent destination for a honeymoon, offering a wide range of activities and attractions. You can explore ancient ruins, enjoy water sports, or simply relax on one of the island's many beautiful beaches. The island's natural beauty and warm hospitality make it a perfect romantic getaway for newlyweds. I’ve spent a lot of time both in Paphos and Ayia Napa and you’re so spoilt for choice, depending on your taste in holidays you have everything you want right here on the island. Some of the best all-inclusive resorts I have ever stayed in, as well as great self-catering resorts with your choice of some fantastic restaurants to choose from all within walking distance or a short taxi ride from most hotels.

I recommend the following hotels:

Atlantica Sun Garden Resort in Ayia Napa

“Atlantica Sungarden Beach hotel is the place to be on holiday. Set in a prime location on the outskirts of Ayia Napa, the Atlantica Sungarden stands on a headland overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and is surrounded by spacious gardens and lawns offering breathtaking views with direct access to one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Cyprus and a range of facilities complete with an excellent atmosphere the SunGarden provides the perfect balance of leisure throughout the year for everybody. Atlantica Sungarden is an environmentally conscious hotel and makes everyone feel like home”

Azia Hotel and Spa in Paphos

The award-winning 5-star Azia Resort and Spa is situated directly on the seafront in Paphos, Cyprus. It has been repeatedly voted as one of the best hotels in the World for Spa, Design, Families, and Luxury.”

Bonus tip: go to Nissi beach in Ayia Napa. It is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever laid eyes on and they have a DJ there playing some great dance tracks to keep you entertained!

9. Friendly Locals

Cypriots are known for their warm and welcoming hospitality, which will make you and your guests feel right at home. You can expect friendly service from everyone you encounter, from the hotel staff to the vendors and locals. Their hospitality will add to the warm and friendly atmosphere of your wedding day.

Even all the ex-pats involved in our own wedding had adopted the Cypriot culture of being laid back and super friendly.

10. Easy Access

Cyprus is easily accessible from Europe and the Middle East, making it a convenient destination for a wedding. You can find direct flights to the island from major cities across Europe and the Middle East. The island's well-developed infrastructure and transport links mean that you and your guests can enjoy a smooth and hassle-free travel experience.
