2 (Or More) Reasons Why You Need To Have Confetti At Your Wedding

These days a lot of weddings are planned to shy away from the copy-and-paste traditions, but there are certain traditions that are worth keeping around and confetti is one of them.

The tradition used to be throwing rice over the couple as they walked out of the church but has since then changed towards small pieces of coloured paper or dried flower petals.

There are many different ways to use confetti at a wedding, a lot of couples still prefer to have it thrown on them as they exit the ceremony or the church, sometimes the confetti throw happens in a more orchestrated way where the guests form a human aisle for the newlyweds to walk down as they throw the confetti over them.

I’ve even seen confetti canons used, although that has usually been saved for the dance floor to add a wow factor to the first dance.

As a wedding photographer I have seen multiple benefits of including confetti as part of your wedding day.

Not only does it make for some epic photos to add to the wedding album but it also keeps your guests feeling involved.

There are breaks in the day between events that sometimes leave the guests waiting around and to get them involved in a part of the day by using a confetti throw is always a fun way to make them feel like more of a part of your day.

I prefer to allow the ceremony to end, let my couples enjoy being greeted and congratulated by their guests and then before the wedding breakfast when there’s a chance to get the group shots done I’ll usually line up the guests in two rows to form a human aisle then get the couple to walk through the middle as confetti is thrown over them. Stopping half way for a kiss, then walking the rest of the way down to the end is a great tip to get the best photos too!
